The Official Brent Weeks Network

For fans of The Night Angel Trilogy and fantasy author Brent Weeks

So I was reading the "who really like elene" discussion and it made me think.

At the end of the trilogy I wasnt really upset as much by Elene and I was over what happened to Dorian.

I mean think about it, nothing would have happened without him. He saved midcyru just as much as anyone else. I really liked Dorian, I started to lose some respect for him more and more into th third book, but i always remembered he only did what he did because he love Jenni.

I mean, yeah he did some pretty bad shit towards the end, but he made up for it, and even though he was losing his grip on reality he still saved Kylar and Elenes son. Losing Dorian is greatly overlooked cause of Elenes death.

I seriously would love to see Mr. Weeks write a book with Dorian, Solon, and Fier before the night angel trilogy.

What happened to Dorian was for the best. What would have happened if Dorian and Logan had to fight over Jenine? It would have been war that would have ended with Dorian dying, maybe even killed by his own country. Throughout the third one you get subtle hints that something bad is going to happen to him. The 'madness' was his only safe way out. Logan says he would have killed him other wise. And, if you remember, Dorian smiles at Vi when she realizes the baby switch. I dont think you should count Dorian out yet.

I wouldn't like a book like that but I agree. Who cared about Elene. What about DORIAN????!

I honestly don't think that Dorian is out of the picture. He'll have a few moments of sanity every couple of years, where he'll tell us what might happen, or maybe he will find a cure or something.

Good Idea, doubt it will happen though but we can only dream...........

I agree; I dont think Dorian is completely out of it. He did swap the baby into Jenni and acknowledged that he did it by smiling at Vi. I think he is laying low to keep everyone happy.

I really did not feel anything with Elene dying. I just didin't care. Vi was, and is, probaly the only charicter who understands Kylar, and what he has gone through. Elene should have been happy about Vi "Ring Raping" Kylar. Without Vi doing so, Kylar AND Vi would not have been alive for the last 300 pages of the book. And yes, I want Brent too make another book about what happens to Kylar and Vi after Elene dies, what happens to Dorian, and Solons marrage to his wife.

I have trouble feeling sympathy for Dorian. Yes he did save Midycru, and Jenine. But his actions were reprehensible. He even admits that he became like his father, or worse. That being said, I did like his character, at least before he changed. I imagine he will feature in any possible sequels, though I doubt will ever get a prequel, as Mr. Weeks, has expressed disinterest in writing prequels. Maybe if we nag him enough, he'll relent ;)

Baby switch? I thought that Jenni is carrying two babies now, so there was one added. Not switched.

That being said, I felt bad because I found Dorian such an interesting character. He did what he did to keep him and Jenni alive.(Even with the horrible things that he did)

If you pay attention you will realize that he did certain little things that showed his humanity throughout his "rule". I think that helped him rationalize what he did.

Dorian took Elene's child and transferred it to Jenine before Elene's death. It was done during the magic-fest that killed all the krul and restored the city. Vi realizes this during Elene's funeral and Dorian looks over at her and winks. It is unclear whether he could actually tell what she was thinking or whether he was just being crazy, but it is implied that he was confirming her suspicions.

I was really disgusted by Dorian's fall, but it didn't really surprise me. He's basically following the same path that Anakin Skywalker did in the Star Wars universe. He started as a great man with only the best intentions, determined to protect people and destroy evil. He attempted to save someone he loved through the use of evil (the vir) and became the very thing he loathed in the process. He spent time as a champion of evil, willing or not, becoming more corrupt as more time passed. In the end he realized what he became and committed an altruistic act to save another and redeem himself. Both he and Vader ended up causing irreversible damage to themselves in the process, but they both considered themselves redeemed by the greater good that their final acts brought about. Of course, Dorian is not dead, and so has a chance to possibly overcome the consequences of his actions in the future.
