Is anyone working on their own art/novel/creation - can you share?

I'm sure there are others who have dreamed of their own plots and story devices. I've always tried to keep my 'amazing' ideas to myself, so I can't ask anyone to share their best, but if you feel like giving a short glimplse into one of your own creations, please share.

i started writing when i was 13. i'm 16 now and i still can't write more than 3 pages of anything before losing focus!!!
strangely enough, i tried writing a novel when i was 13. it was about a medieval assassin named Raven in a country called Synia. i read the night angel trilogy a couple of months ago and was shocked by the similarity, right down to the magic, the corrupt politicians and the main character being the greatest assassin/wetboy in the country. although Raven was a bit more on the insane side and a quite a few years younger than Durzo.

Well Durzo is a pretty common character when you think about it. The hero of a story usually has a great teacher like Arthur and Merlin. I always find it more interesting to write from the perceptive of the strongest person like Raven. Their worries are usually different from the inexperienced or forced hero.
Also Brent Weeks magic is also standard stuff, invisibility, magic hands, speed, strength, most every magically inclined warrior as a few of those.
Your idea sound cool. Something I'd definitely read.

thanks, but i scrapped the idea as a novel. it's now going to be a short story in a book of short stories set in another mythical country full of dragons and warriors and vampires and stuff. Synia has been demoted to a town now lol

I'm a bit cautious of telling others of my amazing ideas as well, or even posting things of them online for fear of them getting stolen. I do tell a few friends though.

I always dream of my own plots and story devices since I'm a wannabe artist and writer, and comic creator, and I'm a bit of a roleplayer.

Let's see... one of my many ideas is probably for a series of short comics or a webcomic. It's about a self-proclaimed super hero, Justice Cat, who starts up things on online social networking sites about gathering together superheroes (think of a "Justice League" assembled via MySpace or YouTube). She manages to gather some - some actually with superpowers (unlike herself) to fight a pack of super villians (probably gathered together in much of the same way) led by her arch nemesis, Negacat, who is just a prankster who goes around and does stuff like fill peoples' drinks with "Unjust Ice".

And that's pretty much the base idea.

I have two other ideas for actual novels which are fantasy and involve me making different worlds and creatures and terms and such, but I won't reveal them just yet. ...And I so hit a writer block for them it's crazy. Ah well. I'll work on them eventually. I also have an idea for video games and other comics but I won't really reveal those either for personal reasons. :D

yes I write for my own pleasure ... have never had the confidence to allow anyone to read anything ... it's already in excess of 80,00 words ... I just feel so protective of what I write. It's like having a baby ... you take the baby around to show it to people and they say my god that's the ugliest baby I've ever seen! LOL ... I just couldn't handle rejection and when I've gone to writing seminars they say that you must have tough skin in the writing business. In college I got A's in my creative writing classes and people always say that they "love" getting letters from me b/c they are so entertaining ... perhaps the way to do it is under a nom de plume .. blame it's failure on of you other personalities .. perhaps I'll chose Sybil as a fake name to write under ... is that something others feel about it ... that the writing is too personal to allow just anyone read it or is that just me?

Yeh I am also trying my hand at writing... When I was a teenager I used to write short stories all the time for no reason what so ever other than I just loved imagining the worlds and writing about them. I stopped for years throughout University etc and through working a "proper job!" But As Ihave been in several bands over that time I found myself as the lyricist for them so I guess I never really stopped?!

But I remember a few months ago I had just finished Trudi Canavans 'Age of the five' trilogy thinking it was the best series i'd ever read, and was well into the 3rd Tom Lloyd book and had spoken to him a couple of times on his website... Then I picked up Poison Study by maria M Snyder and the first nightangel book by brent weeks.... and I remember about the time i was reading those books I was reminded how much i enjoyed writing. So I started... I got about 40-50 thousand words written of a story and then... my hard drive failed on my PC I hadn't made a backup and I lost it all! I have recently found a copy of the opening chapter on my memory stick but tbh the will to continue was kinda sapped by that point. But having finished the night angel trilogy and recently Fire Study, I have been thinking about it for a while, then bout 3 days ago an Idea struck me so I have just been reignited with a desire to write.. whether or not anything will ever come of it I dont know but I hope to atleast finish this story (and yes back ups have been made!).

Asida from that only semi arty thing i do is play bass guitar and scream my lungs out lol been a death / black metal singer for a couple of years, though I think now my vocal chords are starting to really disagree with that line of work! :p

Hey Andy,

always, always, always back up what you write!!! If you know the right person they can usually retrieve what you wrote even if the hard drive did crash .. or sign up for an automatic daily backup service. The one I use is Mozy ... backs up everything about 3am, even if I am using it at the time .. worth it I think. plus a thumb drive doesn't cost that much and can say you some heart break over loosing everything ... betcha back up your stuff now :)~

I have an idea for a collection of short stories in a medieval fantasy style world. There would be three volumes, the first two focusing on the adventures of seven different heroes, and finishing off with a big epic story with all of them in it. The third volume will be set 1000 years later, when the country is modernised and technological, but ruled over by a nazi-style empire. It will have some characters from the first and second volumes, like vampires.

I've been working on several novels, none of which actually have any wind behind them. I have the annoying ability of never being able to commit to any of my own work, at least not right to the end. I finished one book once, took it to a publisher and they said they'd call me but never did :P That never deterred me and I still write, but mostly poetry and short stories now
