Is anyone working on their own art/novel/creation - can you share?

I'm sure there are others who have dreamed of their own plots and story devices. I've always tried to keep my 'amazing' ideas to myself, so I can't ask anyone to share their best, but if you feel like giving a short glimplse into one of your own creations, please share.

>_> I am going to be very brave and post haha~

Right now I am working on a number of things and since I'm a comic artist/writer I am working on a web comic titled Grim Reaper School and a novel that I am trying to work on for NaNoWriMo but also for insight from people outside of my family and friends.

Grim Reaper School is about a rebellious 12 year old girl who dies and attends a school where kids use the time they have lost to learn the tricks and trade of the world in between life and death. Every reaper has their own job to do, and she learns to harness the power she has been given, and is also given the job of babysitting the school's flighty headmaster. I don't mind sharing it cause it's already on the web xD;; won't share much about the novel though, cause its a work in progress.

How about everyone else? How about you? :)

Thanks for sharing. I think your Grim Reaper School sounds like a cool read, and I sooo wish I could do my own Art. I do surf DeviantArt once a month for a few hours on end finding cool wallpapers to freak out my co-workers with. From anime to comic style art, to abstracts, and pictures that capture 'life'... gotta say I love it all.

I am working on two major novels now (though I have been working on one of them for just over 5 years now). I am co-writing the 5 year book, and I've got to say, it's great to have a story of your own that you get excited over and know that others will as well. Suffice to say, I can't even spill the plot on that one. The other novel I'm working on is my other baby, and delves into my science fiction roots. I love both, but there are so many more to write, if I can find/make the time.

I do have one story that I want to work on, but haven't yet, for lack of finishing the others I'm currently on. Called 'Writers Paradise'; The story would be about a brilliant young writer that has many accomplished and well received works, ranging from mystery to fantasy fiction and so on. One day the young man dies, and upon his death, he is given a choice. He must choose between going to spend eternity in the common place that souls go after death, or he can choose one of the worlds that he's created in his books. Of course the writer chooses to take an everlasting eternity in one of his favorite works, which leads into some good things, but mostly very bad things. The writer goes on to find out he can actually jump between the realms of his 'novels' (with some/many negative effects) and realizes that the best place to be was the common place for souls. A journey begins for the writer to traverse his 'Paradise' to get to the true one he should have chosen.

there's something I find intriguing about life-after-death stories (or death stories since, technically, they are sort of still dead) and I guess that's obvious but yeah. I always sort of wish that if I die and get a choice, I get to go to the world I created and stay there, but thinking about it... would I really want to live in that world where everything may feel so right at first but be totally blown away by everything that's wrong?

It sounds like a really fascinating story, so I hope you continue it :)

And yeah, I draw comics but I love pretty much any type of art, I'm not biased at all <3

Am I working on anything...the simple answer is yes...the reality is that I am really great at starting things but never finishing them.
I have a couple of ideas that friends and family want me to just finish and they keep asking me about them. My main problem is that my dialogue is better than my setting most of the time so I am really trying to find that safe place for me to do that....I am also a writer who HATES rules so I am all sorts of fun when editing.

If I'm reading this correctly, why don't you try adapting your writing into a screen play. Believe it or not, setting isn't that important in a screen play or at least you don't have to be so visual in the discription of it since most of it will be illustrated later on story board. Kind of like a play, you know it's either EXT. for exterior or INT. for Interior.

My 'Writers Paradise' is just one of several book ideas that I'm just waiting to write. If I didn't have to make money to do things like eat and pay bills, then I would certainly spend more of my time on my books.
Ajahli, a good anime series (if you're into it) for life after death, supsense, thriller is called DeathNote. Check it out, you won't be sorry, I promise.
Heather, don't worry. We all start things that are hard to finish. I've started five novels since I was in high/middle school, and now I'm a few years out of college and still haven't finished a one. Point is, just keep at it. There's no deadline, unless you're trying to get something published. When you keep working at it, you'll eventually get close to the finish line, and just seeing the threshold waiting to be broken is encouragement. (I'm three or so chapters from finishing my Co-written book and I am excited!!) and just a note: I had to endure the torture of copy editing my co-authors sections so please, please, make it easy for those who edit for you, or pay them well (preferably in cookies or jellybeans).

Ahh Death Note! I love that series! have yet to read the manga (after volume one) but yeah. Love it.

I've never finished anything either. I'm so close to finishing the novel I worked on for NaNoWriMo that it scares me. What happens when I actually finish something?? Will the world explode??

And I agree. Dialogue is soo much fun for me to write but I tend to forget about everything else including the setting so its just talking heads. Yet when I start describing stuff I forget about my characters. Through editing again and again it gets easier to find a balance and tweak things here and there. But having fun is the important part.

I usually have about 2-3 ideas that I think would make good stories and books floating around in my head, or written down on paper. I usually work on an idea for a couple weeks, maybe 2-3 months if I really get engrossed in the world I've created, and then something pops up that stops me writing for a while, and then I'll get back into it but with totally new ideas that don't fit the setting, plot or feelof the previous idea and world!

Ah well. I'll share very brief descriptions of my most recent and developed ideas for your perusal.

1. Dead World (working title, likely to change) = The world has gone to hell. Years ago, a cataclysm ravaged the planet, leaving it a barren wasteland. Ruined cities, home to squatting communites that struggle to survive, give way to the expanses of the ash wastes. Bandits and slavers roam these wastes, taking the weak for fun, for sport. There are those even the slavers fear, legends, ghosts, whispers around the campfire at night. The Wanderers. This story focusses on a view of the world after an apocalyptic event destroyed much of civilisation. In the decades since the Cataclysm, humanity has struggled to survive. The world is a dangerous place, filled with bandits and slavers, vicious wild animals, and starvation and plague. The main charatcer, let's call him Kyte, is a Wanderer, a self-exhiled outcast, roaming the world alone. Dodging raiders and slavers, he meets a runaway slave girl, who shows him a side to humanity long thought lost. Prologue: http://www.sheezyart.com/view/676609/ A selection from chapter 1: http://www.sheezyart.com/view/682247/

2. Dystopia: An accident on his bicycle leaves Adam in a coma for nearly 20 years. When he wakes in a London hospital, Adam finds he hasn't aged a single day. The world has become a very different place from the one of his past. Britain is now an isolated country, governed by a totalitarian regime that rewards the sycophants and the greedy with comfort and security in the cities, and ignores the poor working masses and dissenters, forcing them to live in ruined slums. Will Adam stay in the comfort and security of the city and ignore his moral consience, or risk it all to fight for freedom and equality? Once of those ideas I loved coming up with and writing about, but in hindsight realising it's very similar to previous works, such as 1984 or even V for Vendetta. Chapter 1: http://www.sheezyart.com/view/1357371/

3: The Avatar Chronicles: Everything has balance. Politics, war, magic; all are carefully measured and manipulated into a working system, defined by rules and laws. Weaken the balance, and you are left with devastating consequences: lack of balance in politics leads to riots, starvation, civil war, executions and assassinations; lack of rules of engagement in war leads to massacres, bloody routs, acts of unspeakable torture and depravity; breaking the immutable laws of magic can destroy the world.
There are Nine Gods, each governing their own domain. The Nine Gods do not lend themselves well to perfect balance, however: in order to maintain balance, the voice of the Gods is personified in mortal flesh. He is the Avatar, reborn in a new vessel upon the death of his mortal body, each time representing a different God of the Nine.
Should there be a Tenth God...
Not the best synopsis for the most indepth of my stories. I have created an entire world (well, continent...), with a working economy, military, politics, noble houses, trade routes, cities and myths and histories and kings and heroes and Gods and all those good things! And yet... I haven't worked on it in a while. Oh well. I present to you a short sampling of a chapter-in-progress. http://www.sheezyart.com/view/1112416/

Well, there you have it. My writing style flits between...well, different styles depending on the atmosphere and world I'm trying to create. These samples I have given you are by no means finished works, they are rough drafts I have posted t gauge reactions to ideas.

Thoughts and comments welcomed greatly!

I just play with my writing. I would have a full book by now if I had stuck to an Idea. I would have even had the time to make it perfect. But my first one got erased on my computer, and the second was written and my sister spilled water all over it, so i just gave up and only write for english classes now.

I'm actually working on getting a book sold at the moment. It's heroic fantasy and involves an assassin, which is why I was attracted to the Night Angel Trilogy. Hesitant to talk about it because at first glance it's reminiscent of that typical "hero defeats evil and saves the world" formula. But I choose to think that it's more like "The Crystal Shard" blended with "Foundation", in that it chronicles little victories on the higher path to creating a new world, not necessarily saving an existing one. xD
