The Official Brent Weeks Network

For fans of The Night Angel Trilogy and fantasy author Brent Weeks

I'm not sure if this was posted before hand, but I was curious: with technology these days, would it be better if N.A.T was done in Live Action or CG?

Personally, I think more could be accomplished with CG and it'd be a lot easier to just find the voice for the characters instead of finding someone who's semi-similar enough to pass.

What's your take on this?

For the fighting styles, we would need a definition of the different terms he uses in the books, like in the fight between Lantano and Kylar in book 2

ah I TOTALLY agree with you on the "crouching tiger" thing-- I don't think I'd enjoy the movie at all (or take it seriously if I've never read the book before) if I saw Kylar and Durzo floating over to their deaders with their talents :P

I agree with the whole fighting being done in live action too. Lately I've been watching stuff with very bad CG effects done in live action and it's been turning me off to having this done in movies. So if Night Angel series goes to the big screen I hope Weeks does a full screening on who does the CG graphics in the movie

I for one would love a series. It's the only narrative form that allows enough time to truly develop a story.
Even the Rings films had to leave a hell of a lot out....I love what HBO, SHOWTIME, even AMC are doing and have done. Something like Deadwood just rules..or Rome.

YES!! WE WANT ANIME!!! lol jk jk I'm not sure anime would be able to portray the darker style of the Night Angel Trilogy.

I'm not sure. I kinda think no matter what you try to do with a movie for this, it will only turn out a fraction as good as the book (wether it be a large or small fraction, up to directors). A movie couldn't capture what the mind is creating from this book.

I've been listening to the book on my iPod and I've been thinking I wouldn't trust anyone to do this as a live action movie, it just wouldn't be as good. I would much rather see it as a mini-series done in the style of the HBO version of SPAWN or Afro Samurai. If there were some live action, I would have Scarlett Johanson play Elene or maybe Vi and Carla Giorgino (Sally Jupiter in Watchmen) as Momma K. Don't let Watchmen fool you, if you just let her play her age, maybe just get her a bit older, she'd be most formitable. Either way, if it was in the style of say, Afro Samurai you'd get all the ultra bad-ass action, the super-intense characterization and stylized combat and animation and less compromise in the story, especially if it's a mini series or something. I really can't imagine who could pull off Durzo Blint or Kylar with any great skill. So many of the characters in this book should be physically designed from the ground up, so I am in favor of animation/anime style. I think it is what suits the series best, plus it works with a smaller budget.
