The Official Brent Weeks Network

For fans of The Night Angel Trilogy and fantasy author Brent Weeks

Hey everyone I just finished rereading BtS and was wondering what language the oath Durzo says to Kylar on page 569-570 is in I looked around all kinds of places to find what the words ment and recognized some of the words as Latin but couldn't make sense of it, If someone who is more versed than myself has already translated it could they post it here.

For those who don't what to find and reread it "ch'torathi sigwye h'e banath so sikamon to vathari. Vennadosh chi tomethigara. Horgathal mu tolethara. Veni, soli, fali, deachi. Vol lessara dei"

Some of the words are definitely Latin but I don't think they all are. Probably a language invented by Mr Weeks based on Latin. Although it has been a few years since I've last done Latin so not too sure. I think only Brent will be able to answer this one, sorry : (

Somewhere else on these forums Mr. Weeks has already answered this question. I can't remember the location, but he basically says it's not an original language. I'm pretty sure he also said that it's not a real one, but of that I'm uncertain. He also said he's not going to tell us until possibly the later books, so I guess we'll have to wait.

I think it is a cross between latten and old Irish(Gaelic).

You will probably find out in his next book but it could be Ynmur, Ladeshian or some other new language well find out about.

Hmm, there aren't really any Ancient Greek words there, but I can see the resemblance to Latin (I do both languages...)
I was wondering the same, but I guess we'll just have to wait?

It isn't a real language so you won't find the meaning anywhere on the internet. It's an in-world language. The source and meaning have yet to be revealed which may indicate a potential spoiler to be resolved once Brent gets back to Midcyru.

Thanks very much for the replies. I guess this will be just another reason to read Mr Weeks next book.
