For fans of The Night Angel Trilogy and fantasy author Brent Weeks

Woody

Other "Leaps of Faith" readers have taken concerning Authors they have never read.

The Way of Shadows was a complete Leap of Faith for me, but was an amazing find, i can't wait to read the next two. Has anyone else found any other authors by taking a Leap of faith?

Brent weeks, Robin Hobb, David Gemmell, Steven King (the dark tower series) and the guy that got me into fantasy Raymond E. Feist among others were all leaps of faith for me. I know own every Raymond E. Feist book to date that I could get my hands on and am working on collecting Robin Hobb books. For anyone who has never read Raymond E. Feist's books (such as magician or the serpent war saga) or David Gemmell's Troy series, do yourself a favor and get them... NOW!

Peace out

Oh yes...Raymond E Feist is a great author. One of the few fantasy writers who's style and imagination will appeal to fans of the NA trilogy.

Never read the serpent war saga though.

Most of the books i have been reading for the last 3 years have been complete leaps of faith, some of them have already been mentioned here:

Scott Lynch - The Lies of Locke Lamora. Patrick Rothfuss - In the Name of the Wind. Richard Morgan - The Steel Remains. Joe Abercombie - The First Law. Brent Weeks - Night Angel Trilogy. Peter V. Brett - The Painted Man.

And some that have not been mentioned:

Pamela Freeman - the Castings Trilogy. Gail Martin - The Chronicals of the Necromancer. Jim Butcher - (anything and everything by him). Caitlin Brennen - White Magic Trilogy. I really could go on and on...

One leap of faith that failed me:

City of Bones/Ashes/Glass - I read them all and I will say this: Enough with the Star Wars Plots!

well that's too bad you think that way. In my opinion, there is too much heterosexuality in fantasy. Look at it now, we have multi-culturalism, feminism (by the bucketful) but the minute the main character isn't rescuing damnsels in distress to have their hand in marriage, we run away crying.

As for sex scenes, yes there were a few but nothing that hasn't been done in a heterosexual light. Personally I think it was a refreshing jolt to the brain. I would have preferred it more had the main character been in love more so than what it was in the book but as a gay man, I'm not going to complain. We are getting there!

So question, would you have read the book if you knew it had 2 homosexual main characters?

I'm with Archie on this one. I don't enjoy reading about any sexual activity, but I do enjoy learning about characters of all kinds. Some of my most favorite characters are homosexual- Seregil and Alec in the Nightrunner series and Vanyel in The Last Herald Mage- but I don't want to know about their sex lives, just as I don't want anyone to know about mine. Personal acts like that are nobody's business. I think you can develop a character fully without detailing carnal acts.

I was going to make a Nyl/Kiram reference here, but that just isn't fair. Yes, yes. I know, "shuddup you!"

On a side note, let's try not to derail this topic too much.

paint you as a homophobe? No, not my intention. More so to point out wording. You said there was too much"homosexuality" and then later added sex scenes, which leads to a homophobic comment that one is trying to justify. I propose, next time, instead of saying homosexuality, you should replace it with (in this case) sex scenes.

Wording is amazingly touchy in english. A statement can say so many different things and we, as the writer of a statement, should state it in a way where there is no confusion. Because, by all means, you didn't have to read the sex scene if you didn't want to.

Chronicles of the Necromancer by Gail Z. Martin. My only disappointment is that book 4 isnt out yet.

At least there is a fourth one! When I finished the second one, I thought that was it. There were no "In the sequel..." "look for Dark Haven in bookstores soon!" at the end of the second book. So glad there are more!

The Painted Man by Peter V. Brett. Only problem is that Book 1 of 3 is out with Book 2 out in August and Book 3, presumably, out in August 2010.

Also, The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. EPic, epic, epic read.

Every book I read is a leap of faith beacuse that is what a book is supposed to be. Unpredictable. I hate guessing a conclusion to a great story with 200 pages to go :)
