Of all the disturbing/horrible things that happen to these wonderful characters (not complaining, I understand the necessity of it), the image I can't get out of my head is urine-soaked bread. Every time I see bread I think of it!!! Disgusting, lol.

Well that was a perfect "mood" setter and "personal feelings" tool. I thought it was used very well in the sense of desperateness of the situation, well that and the sense of cruelty and darkness.

yeah I had a hard time getting over that imagery too... Same with when Jarl appeared wearing the dress in the first book (shudder) I've read many a strange tale, but these two images will forever be burned into my imagination...
