Btw, I'm in for this one, too. I've also recently talked to Peter V. Brett--I think you're going to be hearing a lot about him soon, his first book is The Warded Man--about having his book be second. He said he'd be happy to give us some swag--and he has cool swag--and he was also willing to come over here and answer your questions himself. How cool is that? So, exciting things lined up for the Book of the Month Club.

Over here it is called The Painted Man. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago because I liked the look of the cover (I probably should stop doing that). I still haven't read it yet, making my way through Writing the Breakout Novel by Donald Maass and A Second Chance at Eden by Peter F. Hamilton (6 short stories and a novella). Looks like I'll have to grab a copy of The Blade Itself and then start on The Painted Man after that.

Funny, they say never judge a book by it's cover but that is how most books get my attention. I've recently found and read two new authors... at least new to me... and have loved them both. The first was Karen Miller and her Kingmaker, Kingbreaker series. And the second was Brent's Night Angel Trilogy which I am now starting book two.

So anyway, I say go with what looks good. After reading the cover of course...

I have to agree with Paranoid Jack. I know they say don't judge by a cover, but the cover is what grabs me to pick it up and read the synopsis and a little of the first chapter to decide if I want to buy it. And I just started reading Karen Miller's Godspeaker series, after reading Brent's work. I'm rather impressed with the work coming out of the Orbit publishing group. Nice covers and amazing writing.

yea I'm with you guys
your not going to pick up a book if the cover doesn't appeal to you

got to catch our attention right of the bat ; )

The Kingmaker series was the third most recent that I picked due to the cover art and also the way of shadows, just so you know that you have a kindred spirit

Okay so we have the first two books picked out and I am working on deciding the order of the next four after that. I am going to open up a GROUP for BOTM and would lover to have anyone who is willing to journey with us sign up so that I can let these authors know that we have a cool group!
I am also going to throw in different genres---meaning one might be scifi, urban fantasy, fantays noir, and so forth

I'm down. I eat up those murderous conspiracy books. Mental gambits, power plays and all manner of skulduggery are more interesting to me than clashing battles and magical pyrotechnics (though a few added do add some flash when those dirty conspiracies are laid bare).

Great book!! The Bloody Nine is is the perfect name for the main character. The vivid battle and fight scenes are incredible.

i just finished reading it (i read it straight after NA) and i gotta say..it really didn't impress me. it took ages for the book to get anywhere. Jezal was boring and Logen just seemed like a big grunt to me. Bayaz and Glokta were fair awesome though.
The only good bit in the book was when Logen and the chick from the South (cant remember her name) had the big fight with the practicals.
Anyway, i couldn't find the second book so i gave up and im reading Raymond E. Feist's Magician (I know, i cant believe i havent read it either).

Ah yes, that crazy wizard with the oddest and most nonfearsome name. I remember him well.
