just a thought, but for the book of the month thread/club, could you please at first limit yourself to series that the conclusion has been printed? It drives me crazy starting a series a la GRRM or R Jordan and not knowing if it'll be finished.

For the most part they will be but I can't say that will always be the case. I personally don't like to start series that aren't done. The second pick is from Brent and the author is going to answer our questions so that is cool. As for a martin or Jordan-my goal is to introduce more authors and unless I get slammed with messages demanding one of them I will keep searching for gems! I already have a huge list and I am contacting authors to see if they could answer questions

Heather, thanks for all the work with contacting the authors. Question though... How in the world are you able to get this kind of pull with these authors? Those connections are hard to come by.

I have no pull...just begging as elegantly as possible.

Elegantly beg away! I'm definitely in for this BOTM club.

So I take it we plan on going through the whole trilogy? Gives me more to order per package :P.

It is up to each person if they want to finish the series. He does have a new book coming out this summer that is a stand alone book but does have one character from this series show up

This must be Best Served Cold, ISBN 0316044962, which occurs in the same world, though it is not obvious to me who the common character is. I have it pre-ordered.

I know Joe hates maps (one gets the idea he dislikes Tolkien. There is a great quote about this in Book 3 of The 1st law which specifically refers to LOTR. And though he may kill himself ig he glimpses another map, I want a map of his world. I love maps. Maybe this volume will have a map?

Here's a few.

The Lies of Locke Lamora. (Scott lynch)

Codex Alera (Jim Butcher)

The Name of the Wind (Patrick Rothfuss)

Nightlife (Rob Thurman)

The closest to Mr. Weeks style i would say is Lynch and Thurman. Those a few ideas for books if anyone is interested.

the Codex Alera series is amazing, as is Jim Butcher. there are 5 novels in the series with the sixth (and most likely final) novel due out in november.

I agree, and the Dresden Files Series is quite well thought out as well. I'd recommend them but, well, there's eleven books in the whole series... which sort of makes it null. But if anyone is interested in reading the series, I'd suggest you start with Storm Front.

I'd like to suggest Perdido Street Station by China Mieville as a possible BOTM read in the future. I've never read anything quite like it. China uses the English language in an excitingly different way. Everyone should get to read it!
