So this may or may not contain spoilers so if you're afraid to read it then just... don't xD

A friend and I were wondering, quite honestly...

Since the ka'kari started talking to Kylar... I was wondering what conversations between the ka'kari and the mysterious Durzo were like. ;) It seems to have a good sense of humor so far!

For the past few years I've been toying with various ideas for a book of my own, and one that keeps surfacing is artefacts much like the ka'kari, however they not only contain their own personality (a false soul to facilitate use of magic), but the personality draws traits from the owners throughout the centuries. I wonder if the ka'kari are like that (I haven't read the third book yet).

well having been bonded to Durzo for 700+ years and being a devourer it is only reasonable that it had absorbed much of his personality.

As a character/ artefact it has some similarities to other things I have read.

It kind of reminds me of the "light prophocey" crossed with the orb of Aldur from the belgariad by David Eddings..

or maybe Maxwell's Demon from christopher stasheff's A wizard in Rhyme .. Max(nickname) also had the similarity of being an agent of entropy very close to being a devourer . :)

If Durzo (or Kylar) got drunk, would the ka'kari get drunk as well? It is pretty much living inside them after all.

I don't think the ka'kari was an entity that could get drunk in the same sense as people... and it took a lot to get Durzo or Kylar drunk because their bodies fought off the poison just like they healed super fast. I think the ka'kari would just pull itself out if necessary....

Bryn, you're close to the point... except its not so much "fought off" as it is a case of the ka'kari absorbing the impurity of the alcohol, just like it absorbs scent (which is merely impurity in the air). As to where all of the things the Devourer absorbs go to, well.... in the case of energy, its transferred in part to the ka'karifer. So in other words, the Devourer doesn't so much "heal" as it does absorb the impurity of form represented by the wound. This is why it's fascinating to Ariel, because it does something that the Chantry could never do (ie negate the imperfection of cell replication that causes aging and death).

As to the question of whether the other ka'kari would have sentience, I would think they would, but on a more limited scale than the Devourer, as they were both younger and less powerful. I'd imagine them capable of empathic communication with their bearers, instead of telepathic.

And to Odin, why would he stop at so few? Maybe he never knew the Devourer had a personality, as he wasn't bonded to it. He could also have done so as a design specification, making it easier for bearers to bind his ka'kari.... since it would be less "choosy". This would hint that the Vürdmeisters couldn't break the bond of the ka'kari, as they were of the mind that all ka'kari were non-sentient or possessed of only a limited sentience.

Here's one. Who made the Black? How did they give it sentinence?

Wha would ave been funny 2 hear would ave been Durzo tryin 2 lie 2 the Black.

'I swear I didnt do it!'
'I was there I saw you'
'Emmm...............'
* forces the Black on2 Iures*

I'm of the opinion that the Devourer was not made so much as created - i.e. a force intrinsic to the makeup of the world of which Midcyru is a continent. I base this on the fact that none of the other examples of the items of note included in the books (which supposedly were made using the same founding principles as the Devourer) evinces any sort of personality to those who wield them.

After reading about Kylar and Durzo's convo's about the Ka'kari, I got the impression that it really isn't that easy to bond a Ka'kari.. like they each have a base minimum of requirements. For the Black, I got the impression that it chose Kylar because:
1. He didn't have a conduit but a huge/big glorevyden(sp?)
2. He filled the specifications for the use of the Black i.e: He knew the difference between right and wrong to the essence that if he had to sacrifice for the good.. well he would. I think that's why had a problem with it through alot of the book.. he was trying to conform the right to follow his belief's instead of the good of the world/people.. as a Judge. He ended up judging personally instead of impersonally.. if that makes sense ~_~

And from basing that I believe that each ka'kari has its on base minimum requirements.. which lean towards the original bearers who the ka'kari were originally made to fit.
As for each ka'kari having a personality I find that quite a faint possibility.. I think the most they can manage is...... "Duck" (~_^) at the most.

From that I assume that the Godking was just searching through all the Ka'kari not knowing that there was a requirement.

I have to agree to many of the explanations here...

1- The black ka'kari is old... created a long time ago, in a galaxy.... oops, sorry wrong forum for that expression :D

2- Who created it... unknown at the moment, but I'm sure that will surface again later...

3- As for the conversations, I can't wait to know about them. I thought of some of them...

For example:

(Scene #1)
Durzo: "I'm ready to infiltrate the castle. I finish my disguise finally".
Ka'kari: "You look cute as a blonde girl..."
Durzo: "Pervert!"
Ka'kari: "Hey, I"m sure that someone will ask you in the future, 'Durzo, did you ever diguise yourself as a girl?' And you will have to say..."
Durzo: "I don't want to hear about your twisted fantasies." 'Jerk'
Ka'Kari: "I hear that. You know that.. hphmm"
The Ka'kari goes silent as Durzo force it to cover Retribution while putting some garlic in his mouth.

(Scene #2)
Stumbling around, drunk, Durzo looks for the traps he needs to disable on the door to the safe house.
Ka'kari: "Wait, don't touch that..."
A dart flies from a hidden door an lands on Durzo's neck sending a shock of pain from the poison in its tip. He trips and falls down, flat on his back, hitting his head with a rock, sending more pain to his misery.
Ka'kari: "I told you so."
Durzo: "I guess that I need to pay more attention..."
Ka'kari: "You need to stop getting drunk and wasted."
Durzo: Bastard hiccup
Ka'kari: "Are we talking about you?"

(Scene #3)
Walking silently in the night, Durzo makes his way to his new deader. He stops and looks through an open window to see a woman undressing to get into a tub for a bath. Durzo smiles.
Ka'kari: ""Who is the pervert now?"
Durzo: "Not your business."
Ka'kari: "It is when I'm bonded to your body and I know what your body feels. Or does for that matter..."
Durzo takes the Ka'kari out of his body and forms a black ball, which he use to throw against the wall playing throw and catch. After a while he returns the Ka'kari back into his body.
Ka'kari: "Honey, I'm hoooome. So, what did you do while I was out? You look tired."

Just some ideas... Mr. Brent, please don't send the Night Angel to find me to bring justice for these aweful/bad writings...

Hahaha nice. Gave me a good laugh. I can hear the Ka'kari saying some of those things. Convo's with Kylar would be even funnier cause Kylar may fall for dumb traps :D

Kylar and the Ka'kari

Ka'kari: "Turn left on the next hallway."
Kylar: "Are you sure?"
Ka'kari: "I've been here with Durzo before. Now, hurry and run as fast as you can and turn left."
Kylar runs using his Talent and turns left. A jolt of pain explodes in his head and face. Stars dance around his eyes while he can taste blood on his mouth. He ran into a half wall merely a couple of steps after the turn.
Ka'kari: "Welll that's new."
Kylar: "I thought you said that you've been here before. How long ago was that?"
Ka'kari: "Fairly recent, about a hundred years ago."

(Scene #2)
Kylar: "It is great to be invisible thanks to you."
Ka'kari: "Yeah, I guess invisible is the best way to people see you."
Kylar: "What do you mean?"
Ka'kari: "I can make someone invisible, but I don't make miracles on how they look."

I will think or more for later... Enjoy for the moment.
