The Official Brent Weeks Network

For fans of The Night Angel Trilogy and fantasy author Brent Weeks

I wasn't surprised to find this topic here. While I think that its a great idea to not only promote the books, but also add to the user-created content for Morrowind, I have a slightly different agenda.

When I got into the second book, I saw great potential for a console (possibly a PC too) game. Upon reading the third book, I saw it as a challenge and (with the proper amount of work done) a successful franchise.

I have a rather light (in my opinion) background in game design. I can easily come up with gameplay mechanics and concepts for just about every aspect of the story, which would likely follow Kylar from Azoth/Kylar from beginning to end.

I have prior work experience in the games industry. I was a tester, but I worked with the designers and learned quite a bit from them, though not as much as I would've liked. Getting back on topic, I still have a few of those contacts, so issues and questions can get some kind of response. While I can't guarantee professional development, I think it would be a fun endeavor.

Who knows, once the design doc is complete, Mr. Weeks may just find a publisher/developer to pick it up and finish it.

So, I guess what I'm looking for now is an artist and or 3D renderer to help bring some of this to life. Publishers love content after all. I can't say that anyone who's involved would ever see a dime for the work, personally I just want to flex my design muscles and see if I can hack it.

Anyone interested in helping out with Project Night Angel?

Mr. Weeks, what do you think? If some of your fans presented you with a (near)complete design document in a few months would you be interested in trying to find someone to create a game out of it?

This would strictly be a "whenever you have the spare time" kinda project. More for fun, less for profit, but if there's a payment at the end I doubt anyone would decline it haha.

Alright, I'm done babbling. Discuss!

Victor... I think that you missed other topics already ongoing for this same effort of doing a video game. For example...

However, the only one used right for for this effort is the first one (night-angel-videogame)... I suggest that you take a quick pick at them and see how you can help to this project started by fans...

Like I said, I saw the topic already. Its cool they want to use the Morrowind tools to build levels and all, but what I'm talking about is an actual licensed game.
Sorry if I was being confusing at some point, I haven't slept in nearly two days and I'm running on sheer force of will over here.

Is ok... Been there many times. May I suggest, to avoid having the moderators send the Night Angel after you, that you let them know that you want to keep this topic alive. In my opinion, having this parallel effort for a common goal is like reinventing the wheel. Worked as a progrma manager for a while and I saw this often, when you have 3 people working for the same thing but using different approaches. It is ok if you are going to fuse them together later, but I don't know if this is the case. I think that if all of the developers got together and created a forum where they can actually put together their ideas with someone as the "leader" to help in decision making moment, this videogame can actually become true in a blink of an eye.

Just my ideas... my engineer mind always take the lead in conversations like this...

Thanks for the tip. I should've been more clear with what my plans are for this. While it would be great to combine the efforts of the Morrowind OC project and this, I doubt it would work. Morrowind is an open-world RPG and that's not the direction I see this going in. NA would likely be more suited for a sandbox hack n' slash (esque) RPG. 3rd person perspective, etc, etc
Not only that, but the tools and resources for Morrowind are quite old now, and what can be done is rather limited in comparison to what can be done when its developed by professionals.

Ooooh ok... thanks for the clarification....
Keep it coming though... Don't stop your effort. And as I said to the other folks, if you need ideas, comments, or even beta testers.. I'm here...

Thanks. Hopefully I can get some of these ideas down, although I think I'm going to have to read through all three books a few times in order to pick out everything that would definitely work in a game. *stares at the books*
I'm going to need a new notebook and probably a lot of pens...

Night Angel? Where?

I am not going to shut this thread. This is Brent's area, and though technically it could be combined into one of the many other threads. I am going to be nice and not force it.

have fun.

Naz-Mero ducks but fails to hide. The idea of hiding behind the chair is not a good idea at all, as he might learn one day.

Phewww... That was close...

Has there been any debate on what the voice of the ka kari sounds like? I can't remember if it was ever described. I'm thinking of getting a small voice cast together and I know two people both male and female who I think would be perfect for the role. (Though who knows what'll happen if people start getting interested in this project)

Speaking of which, figured out how to describe the game.
Prototype and Assassin's Creed got married and had a baby, on its 3rd birthday, its uncle, Shadow of the Colossus gave it a birthday present at the last second.

haha, I always pictured it as the voice inside the prince's head, in the prince of persia games, that he got after he became the dark prince or whatever
