What book/author brought you into the Fantasy Genre?

I have been surfing through the forums of late and have noticed that a lot of people seem to have read RA Salvatore at one point. I have also read Mr. Salvatore's work (Drizzt moreso than the others) but no longer do.

So here is my question: What author or series brought you full heartedly into the Fantasy Genre?

For me it was a mixture of Anne McCaffrey, Terry Brooks and RA Salvatore. Who are yours?

hmm... if u guys consider Star Wars to be fantasy that would be my first, then i went to read alot of other stuff, lord of the rings... and Ian Irvine's books... and lots of other stuff.. kept following the star wars books though, but i have to say i love the writing style of brent weeks, no dilly dally XD

Good point though. I think most people do consider StarWars SciFi because it has a space theme to it but when you examine "the Force," it works like a basic magic.

I've loved the fantasy genre since I was a child, and so I have no idea who brought me full heartedly into the fantasy genre, but I'll have to go with.. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.

Well, C.S. Lewis is the first author I can remember reading. I gave a book report in the 6th grade. I read all the Narnia books. The next one I can remember would be The Incredible Shrinking Man. My mom had a paperback from the 60s or 70s she gave me. Then, I got into Louis L'Amour and read all of his books I could get. I know .. a sigh from SF fans. However, LL did have at least one SF book that I can remember: The Haunted Mesa. I know somewhere in there I read Vale of the Vole (Piers Anthony) and a ton of Pern books.

For me it started with Star wars(obviously) and sci-fi then became a huge fan of fantasy after reading Michael Moorcock

but arch
i would brents work less confusing than the twilight reign series

since his stories kinda resolve around the important charactors
without having to remember all the suserans in the twilight reign
and than there is all the other stuff

like when lord styrax kill a one of his own soldiers to talk to a daemon prince (1st book)
......who was that.....is that the same daemon who is in kohrad armour or just someone else.
