I'm not entirely sure, I'll have to look back, but I think the Hunter is like all the evil that was inside Ezra, all of his greed and powerlust ect. and Ezra and the Hunter everyday 'fight for dominance' and neither ever wins. I'm not sure where Roygaris fits into it but I'm sure its there somewhere
All I know is that it was a creature made knowingly or not by a epic, Epic, EPIC, 3PIC, wizard. And from my DnD experience you dont freight with a thing made by those people. All in all, you mess with this thing you die. 5,000 people prove that in the trilogy. Even the mighty Durzo could only harm it but in return was messed up himself. Lets see some facts about this thing.
kills thousands no prob.
lighting fast
big and mean looking
smells magical objects
EVERYONE is scared by it
Immune to magic
Immune to weapons
Dislikes Krul
Hoards magic items and things of great value.
My evaluation of this beast concludes with one answer,
THIS THING IS A DRAGON! (most likely a red one)
(The only true way of knowing is to email Weeks and ask him yourself.)
The hunter was the most powerul krul and it had to be controlled to control th krul army of millions. Ezra then somehow controlled its body even though the stranger spirit had left it leaving Ezra with a BAMF of a magical protector and gatherer.
To elaborate on what BmPro said, I believe when Ezra says that the Hunter is his hubris, he is speaking metaphorically. He tried to attack the Dark Lord (Some evil thing. Possibly like Khali) with it's own creations. In retaliation, the Dark Lord either let loose the Hunter, or it's the Dark Lord attacking (Meaning he is the Hunter). That's my best guess.
Or hey, it might just be his hubris given form. I dunno.
Oh, and one more thing. In response to KillingOurAngel, Ezra and Roygaris are two different people. Ezra was an insane mage, and Roygaris Ursuul was a godking. If I'm correct, he's the one that ended up loosing Khali on Midcyru.
at the end of the last book ezra says the wolf is his hubris which is basicaly ones Ego but more than that heres the encarta meaning of hubris
1. pride: excessive pride or arrogance
2. excessive ambition: the excessive pride and ambition that usually leads to the downfall of a hero in classical tragedy
