I'm back

Whew, sorry I was gone so long. I've been very busy. Finals are coming up! I check deviantART everyday, but sadly I've neglected this site. Ah well, I'm here now.
I prefer to stick with fantasy, but lately I've been into Alexander the Great, and am reading a historical fiction novel by Mary Renault called The Persian Boy, and I really jsut want to sit down and read it, but I hardly have anytime. :(
Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know I'm still around.

Of Assassins and Demons Part1 (Updated 20th May 2009)

Ok Firelight, here's the first part of requested assassin story, enjoy :D

“You did what?!”

“I…I’m sorry.” The male mumbled, the futility of the uttered words clear in his expression.

“Oh you’re sorry, well that clears everything up.” The female spat sarcastically. The male just stared helplessly at the floor, shuffling his feet like a guilty child, scorned for staying out too late.

“Jesus Warren. What’s wrong with you?” The female asked, exasperation in her stance as… Continue

Save your scars, soldier. You will need them; believe me, you will need them.

They serve as a reminder, soldier, a mark on body and soul. Each wound half-healed bleeds when you begin to nightmare, remembering a battlefield upon which hundreds tried to kill you and failed. And soldier, you remember only too well the faces of those who failed in their duty to clan and country to kill you. When you close your eyes, their dead eyes, look out accusingly from dead bodies, burned onto the… Continue

A Promotion

I stepped into the office with a feeling of trepidation. It wasn’t the first time I’d been here, of course, but it was the first time I’d been called. Called by him.

My first few steps into the office were hesitant. I wasn’t sure why I’d been called for – surely no one as important as our commander would need to see me. That’s what I believed, anyway. I was almost fearful of lifting my eyes to view our commander. Napoleon was a man people spoke of in hushed whispers when candles had… Continue

Forgive Me

It hurts, but I’m not bleeding. It hurts, but there’s no blood. No cuts, no tears in skin – here is our problem. If I’m not bleeding, you’re not hurting me, no matter the faces I may make or the sounds I utter. If you’re not hurting me, he will, and then hurt you for your insolence.

I couldn’t bear that. Flag the rod a little harder – jerk it sideways across my back. It’ll cut then, tear the skin so I can prove my pain. He won’t be satisfied with that – you’ll have to keep it up,… Continue

Drabbles for the Soul

A quick collection of drabbles.

Brother is a clock. An odd clock. He keeps strange hours, and his second hand doesn’t seem to work all the time. He lugs around the minutes in his briefcase, and they grow weightier with each passing hour, or so he tells me…

When he talks to me.

He’s up before me, brewing tea in three flavors to blend. Sometimes he deviates from the schedule long enough to drive me to school. He’s at work until… Continue

Touching Minds

The first touch to a child’s mind burns.

He found out the hard way, puzzling over the blistering heat. His prison still carried him, tied up somehow within the very framework. To escape, he needed form. A form meant a body. Body linked with mind. The mind –

The second touch to a child’s mind scalds.

Steam caught his hand when he reached out, looking for whoever it was that now possessed his soul. Who he was now. The water vapor condensed on previously burned… Continue

Has anyone ever told you that you're not made out for something? Hey, you can't play soccer - you can't even kick the damn ball. You can't do math - idiot, two and two make four! You can't wear those pants - you're too damn ugly for them.

Well...I guess trying to get away with wearing frilly pink things should have tipped me off to the last. Mostly though, the rant of today is centered on blood, and why I can't give it.

Today was supposed to be a nice, relaxed,… Continue

Writing again~

So, I made the mistake of picking up a book series I haven't read in ages. Anyone who likes really long series of things would appreciate this one: The Legend of Drizzt, written by RA Salvatore. (Yes, dammit, I'm trying to convert people.) Basic premise is this emo elf who doesn't fit in underground decides to try his luck above ground, and lo and behold! He becomes a hero. Basically. (Of course it's more complex than that - there's something like thirty books!)

In order to make everyone… Continue

The End.

It was a very odd feeling, that of a foreign object piercing your abdomen. There was pain; oh yes, there was pain, and more pain than one could possibly imagine. But there was a certain numbness to the feeling, as well. It was simply too hard to imagine that an extremely long sword was actually sticking through your body. The idea just didn't seem plausible. And yet, there it was, and I could only look at it; the fine metal inscribed with runes of the ancient world. I imagine I would've thought… Continue

More of my Assassin story, please comment

Stephen crouched low in the corner of the room, all his weight resting on the balls of his feet. He could rise at any moment, without making a sound. As he heard footsteps and quite, flirtatious voices coming up the spiral staircase of the castle, he used his magic to bathe him in shadow, so very close to invisible, the two wouldn’t notice him at all. Even if they did, it would be far too late.

The footsteps came closer, within feet of the heavy oak door. Then the bronze door handle turned… Continue

The Beginning Part 3

Aaaaand this is the last part of my first chapter, so enjoy :) (Sorry, this one's even longer) Oh and I won’t be posting any more than this when it comes to this novel as I have been advised not to for good reason. But thanks for even reading this far, whoever you may be :D

He knocked on the open door before stepping into the room the red-haired woman had just left. The room was a dappled grey stone with a low ceiling and a simple metal tub on a low dais. The tub was currently being… Continue

The Beginning Part 2

Ok so as the title suggests, this is the follow-on part to my last blog post (and is equally as long - sorry). Enjoy:

When he eventually regained consciousness he sat up quickly, tensed and expecting to see a Ghunai charging at him - but the pain in his head reminded him of the night before. He laid back down, his head feeling faint again and closed his eyes.

Subsequently frowning to himself, eyes still closed, he slowly took in what he thought he would see a second ago,… Continue

The Beginning

Ok so this is my first blog, and due to some lovely encouragement from Eli and Archie I have decided to make it part of the first chapter from my novel (which is currently still in the process of being written). It's the first five pages of said chapter though, so I completely understand if people just don't have the time to read it....but anyway, enough of my rambling, here it is - enjoy: (Oh and any comments and/or criticisms are very much welcome :D)

Night is falling slowly onto… Continue
